My Role
As offline editor on Wild Babies, I cut two episodes — Episode 2: Home Alone and Episode 4: Big Families — collaborating closely with producer Gemma Brandt and executive producer Stephen Dunleavy at Humblebee Films. The series follows the early lives of animals from birth through their formative weeks and months, and my role involved structuring sequences to balance warmth, behavioural insight and emotional clarity. I worked with directors and producers to refine pacing, build character arcs for the young animals, and make editorial choices that brought out both narrative cohesion and observational detail.
Editorial Approach
The editorial language of Wild Babies is shaped by intimacy and rhythm — letting moments of discovery, play and challenge unfold with space and respect for the participants’ behaviour. In Home Alone and Big Families, the cut was designed to give viewers room to feel the vulnerability of young animals while maintaining clarity of story through carefully chosen beats and transitions.
Sequences were paced to allow the natural interplay between animal curiosity and parental influence to speak for itself, using silence, reaction shots and timing to let emotion emerge from lived experience rather than contrived emphasis. Collaboration with sound design and narration ensured that the episodes felt cohesive and immersive.
Why This Project Matters
Wild Babies offers a delicate window into the earliest stages of animal life, blending scientific observation with emotional resonance. By following young animals through their first challenges and triumphs, the series encourages empathy and understanding of development, survival and social bonds in the wild. Its success lies not just in adorable moments but in its ability to connect audiences to broader ecological contexts through individual stories.
